MRG

In the course of its nearly 25 year history MRG has developed, implemented, managed and supported a variety of public education, demonstration, data-gathering, technical assistance and community programs which have positively impacted solid waste resource management programs throughout Hawaii.

A project-oriented organization, MRG has received grants and contracts from the County of Maui, and the State of Hawaii Department of Health, the State of Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, Clean Hawaii Center and ERT and the US Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9.

Additional projects initiated by Maui Recycling Group

Distributed and catalogued educational materials – print and video · Provided technical assistance and education to Maui County public school teachers in support of County of Maui Aluminum Collection Program.
Coordinated a pilot paper recycling project – Lokelani Intermediate School – We Distributed recycling bags to Maui school children
The MRG Condominium and Apartment Recycling Technical Assistance Program
The MRG “Remade On Maui" program, promoting Maui businesses manufacturing value added products utilizing recycled materials
Coordinated the first Paint Exchange in Maui. Over 100 gallons of usable paint was diverted from landfill disposal for reuse by Maui organizations and individuals.
Established Maui's first permanent, public recycling facility in conjunction with CMS of Hawaii, Azeka Place and Kukui Mall shopping centers and Maui Scrap Metal Company. These became the Drop Boxes we have around the Island today
Co-sponsored Maui's first Telephone Directory Recycling program. And Maui’s first Christmas Tree Recycling program
MRG provided 14 members of the Maui Hotel Association with the technical assistance and set-up Pilot Recycling Project.
Publication (for 3 years+) of weekly "THE MAUI RECYCLING GROUP WANTS YOU TO KNOW" in a Maui News ad.
Developed and co-sponsored Maui “Art of Trash” art show which MRG continues to organize and manage. Members and directors of MRG have also served on a variety of Maui County and statewide committees, commissions, boards, task forces and other industry organizations.
