ANAEROBIC HISTORY

As of this writing (August 2013) MRG understands that the County of Maui and Anaergia Services are engaged in negotiating a contract based on the proposal submitted by Anaergia Services Inc. in response to the Request For Proposals (RFP)for an Integrated Waste Conversionand Energy Project.  This RFP was issued in November 2012 and is intended to facilitate a 20 year program.

We are not aware of any of the content of this contract negotiation.  We do know, based on our analysis of the Anaergia proposal, that they propose to manage and take ownership of Maui’s entire waste stream.  MRG is concerned that a waste to energy program such as this will destroy our existing recycling programs and put Maui County at risk for a major environmental and economic disaster.

For more information please read the public comments from MRG and the County administration below:

On March 27, 2013 Mayor Alan Arakawa announced plans to close recycling drop boxes and reduce the County’s 2013-14 recycling budget.
